Outreach

CIMAS scientists frequently participate in a number of outreach activities to share the research being conducted at CIMAS to help foster ties with the South Florida community. Career days, public lectures, appearances at local and regional K-12 schools, civic organizations, business and industry trade associations are just a few of the events attended by CIMAS scientists.

A collaboration with the Miami-based CLEO Institute provides an opportunity for CIMAS scientists to enhance the climate literacy of vulnerable and underserved communities. Public engagement events include presentations by CIMAS scientists on basic climate science as well as specific research projects.

The Ocean Discovery Center houses interactive exhibits, small aquaria, video theater, and other displays exploring the marine environment and showcasing the ongoing research and conservation efforts of Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute to give visitors a close-up look at the emerging technologies used by the marine research community.

Our high school apprenticeship program reflects our relationship with our Virginia Key neighbor MAST Academy, the only maritime and science technology magnet high school in the Miami-Dade County Public School system.
